About the Author
Dr. Mark L. Gillenson has been practicing, researching, teaching, writing, and, most importantly, thinking, about data and database management for over twentyfive years, split between working for the IBM Corporation and being a professor in the academic world. While working for IBM, he designed databases for IBM’s corporate headquarters, consulted on database issues for some of IBM’s largest customers, taught database management at the prestigious IBM Systems Research Institute in New York, and conducted database seminars throughout the United States and on four continents. In one such seminar, he taught introduction to database to an IBM development group that went on to develop one of IBM’s first relational database management system products, SQL/DS.

Dr. Gillenson conducted some of the earliest studies on data and database administration and has written extensively about the subject as well as about database design. He is an associate editor of the Journal of Database Management, with which he has been associated since its inception. This is his third book on database management, all published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc. He has also written Strategic Planing, Systems Analysis, and Database Design (1984) with Robert Goldberg and Database Step-by-Step (1985, 1990). Dr. Gillenson is currently a professor of MIS in the Fogelman College of Business and Economics of The University of Memphis. His degrees are from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and The Ohio State University. Oh, and speaking of interesting kinds of data, as a graduate student Dr. Gillenson invented the world’s first computerized facial compositor and codeveloped an early computer graphics system that, among other things, was used to produce some of the special effects in the first Star Wars movie.

I ordered this book for my second Kindle reader. It is out of print or at least hard to get and expensive when you can find it. For kindle it works well and has a lot of good information.

I'm returning this book. Why did I give it 5 stars then? Because I already know electronics and this book is written for somebody with little or no knowledge of electronics, so since I already know electronics, it's the wrong book for me. But before returning it I looked through it and it looks like a really great book for somebody that isn't an expert in electronics but would like to read a book and know how to build,repair, or even just understand their own amp. If you want to learn about your amp, I highly recommend this book. If you already know electronics then this is the wrong book for you.

With the resurgence of interest in vacuum tube audio amplifiers among audio purists, Vacuum Tube Amplfier Basics is right on target. Although it reviews basic electronics theory and terms before launching into describing practical circuits that the reader can build, readers with no prior electronics knowledge need not be intimidated. The theory is presented in a simplified and logical way that will be useful for newbies through experienced electronics techs. For readers who wish to do so, the book gives clear intsructions for building high quality tube circuits that can be combined to yield a fully functional vacuum tube stereo system that you can brag about having built yourself. What an adventure! It also suggests compatible speakers and explains the fabled "tube sound". A previous reviewer mentioned that the diagrams were hard to read on the Kindle version. This is easily remedied by viewing the book on Kindle's free PC ap where you can have the diagrams a big as you like.

If you just want to know how to make a Tube Amp for any purpose this is the book for you. It does cover introduction into electronics and then goes into specifics behind signal amplification. Shows amplifier general arrangements, how to position tag strips and how to physically connect components instead of leaving it to the imagination of a beginner who has no idea where to start.This is the perfect beginner's book that provides a firm foundation for more comprehensive books like those by Morgan Jones Highly recommended!

Well written and concise, hobbyist DIY amp builders will learn something here. Supplement with other online video resources to nail down critical concepts and build your confidence to build a great tube amp - great stepping stone for beginner to intermediate level electronics enthusiasts with some amp building experience. Two thumbs up! Basics? Well, perhaps, but plenty of good material here to reinforce what you think you may already know. You know who you are!

This is an excellent book on building a tube amp. Many books of this type claim to start you with the very basics of doing so but then do not. This one really does so. I cant over recommend this book for one who wants to build a tube amp but has little or no experience doing so. Buy this one before you buy others.

It's been many years since I was an electronics technician in the Coast Guard, but if I'm remembering right, the concepts of how a vacuum tube works were not made nearly as clear as this book makes them. I'm not very far into the book, but so far I find it very informative and enjoyable.

This economical book provides a good foundation to get one started in DIY tube amplifiers. One thing I particularly liked about the book were the detailed construction tips, e.g. the proper placement of lock washers on chassis mounted components, grounding techniques, etc. These types of things are often glossed over or not well covered in other sources.

I had to buy this book for a class I was taking in college and didn't think much of at the time. After having some time to read through it later I found it is full of very helpful concepts and priceless information to anyone looking to get into color photography. Unfortunately color film is a dying process, but none the less this is an excellent manual and useful even in the digital world we live in.

As a very amateur photographer, I'm trying to learn more about color theory. This wasn't what I was looking for. It is more of a book on color photography. I was looking for instruction on how colors interact with each other and the what they mean in an image.

Henry Horenstein, author of BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOGRAPHY: A BASIC MANUAL, a book often used as a photography text book, has a similar book on color photography. COLOR PHOTOGRAPHY: A WORKING MANUAL offers the same excellent how-to information provide in the black and white counterpart. The book contains many of Horenstein's excellent photographs and offers information regarding filters and developing color prints. While it contains some information on color transparencies (slides), it is somewhat scant and may in the long run be more helpful for printmakers. At a time when digital photography is all the rage, this book is not obsolete since Horenstein's expertise will help ant photographer, no matter what the medium.

This book is well-written and lavishly illustrated with good-quality color photographs from a number of well-known contemporary photographers. The basic physics of color theory and color perception are well laid out. The text and explanations are easy to follow, even for a novice. Having taught color photography for a number of years, in the US and in France and Italy, I have found that this text to be the most consistently useful for my students.
